You are so correct. Very aware that the Uncle Sam icon was a later creation. But for many folks Uncle Sam is simply the personification of the country (U.S. - get it?).

For the record: The USA is 235 years old (actually independent) now. Uncle Sam himself has been around for not quite 200 years.
