Die US-Regierung betonte, dass für den Abriss des Ostflügels keine Genehmigung der National Capital Planning Commission (NCPC) erforderlich sei, sondern lediglich für den geplanten Neubau. Die NCPC ist zuständig für Bauvorhaben und größere Renovierungen an Regierungsgebäuden im Raum Washington. Noch hat die Kommission den Neubau nicht genehmigt. Ob das Weiße Haus die Pläne offiziell eingereicht hat, war zunächst unklar. Aufgrund des derzeitigen Shutdowns in den USA sind die Büros der NCPC geschlossen.

Da kann man doch schon mal Fakten schaffen.

The US government emphasized that demolition of the East Wing did not require approval from the National Capital Planning Commission (NCPC), but only the planned new construction did. The NCPC is responsible for construction projects and major renovations to government buildings in the Washington area. The commission has not yet approved the new building. It was initially unclear whether the White House had officially submitted the plans. Due to the current shutdown in the US, the NCPC offices are closed.
